Washington .- The United States denied on Friday Iran’s claims that its forces killed or captured U.S. military personnel during an attack in the Al-Tanf military zone in Syria, according to the U.S. Central Command (Centcom).
In a post on X, Centcom described as “false” the claim spread by Iranian authorities that their forces attacked the Al-Tanf area and caused the death of U.S. troops during the operation.
“No U.S. soldier in the region has died or been captured recently,” noted the U.S. military command.
The denial comes after Tehran claimed this Friday to have attacked and destroyed US targets in Syria and Qatar in a new wave of operations in retaliation for Washington’s attacks on its territory.
Iran claimed to have carried out a “surprise attack”
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated in a communique that its Aerospace Forces carried out a “surprise attack” against the U.S. special operations command center in the Al Tanf area, where, according to Tehran, they caused the death of “a large number of criminal American personnel.”

These actions are part of the exchange of attacks between Iran and the U.S., intensified in the last week after U.S. President Donald Trump declared the memorandum of understanding reached between the parties in mid-June to be canceled.
In addition, Centcom reimposed the naval blockade on Iranian ports and vessels in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, two days after the Islamic Republic’s warning about closing this maritime route due to U.S. bombings.
