UNDP highlights that the DR advanced in the SDGs despite the challenges of the first half of 2026

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) highlighted that the Dominican Republic, in a regional context marked by growing economic, social, climatic, and institutional challenges, continued to promote initiatives aimed at strengthening resilience, expanding development opportunities, and accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The organization states that during the first semester of 2026, public institutions, the private sector, academia, civil society, and development partners joined efforts to promote innovative evidence-based solutions, strengthen institutional capacities, mobilize financing, and generate opportunities for people and communities.
“From the incorporation of the first parametric insurance linked to social protection in Latin America and the Caribbean to the promotion of sustainable investments, the generation of knowledge for human development, the strengthening of climate resilience, and the advancement of more inclusive governance, the achievements reached reflect the value of partnerships and joint work to transform challenges into opportunities,” cites the UNDP in its report corresponding to the first half of 2026.
Among the programs developed with the support of the UNDP, highlights include the nearly 10,000 people who benefited from the English for Employability Program, the more than 200 people who strengthened their skills in financial inclusion, and the 3,030 households that will be protected through the first parametric insurance linked to social protection in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Likewise, the 76 specialists trained in search and rescue for risk management, the more than 400 future teachers benefiting from educational strengthening programs, and the more than 800 people have access to a sustainable electrical service thanks to the La Cidra community hydroelectric plant, in the Santiago Rodríguez province.
