A fourth person is arrested for drug stash seized at the AILA in August

Santo Domingo.- Agents of the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) and members of the Public Ministry, supported by the Specialized Airport Security Corps, (CESAC), arrested another woman on charges of being part of a network, which was confiscated eight packages of cocaine at Las Américas International Airport (AILA). The DNCD said today that it is Nefry González Rivas, who worked at a company that offers air services at the terminal and who, according to reports, is one of the main ringleaders within this structure that operated at the AILA.

The agency announced the arrest of Julio César Guzmán Torres, Rafael González Núñez, Rafelito García Méndez and Ángela Orquídea Feliz Félix, who, according to investigations, were commissioned to allow the entry of the packages to an aircraft that would travel to Madrid, Spain. It has been established within the framework of the investigation that the accused, all employees of airlines and companies providing services at the terminal, used their positions to facilitate the sending of drugs to Europe, the agency added. The Public Ministry and the DNCD are conducting an ongoing investigation into the dismantling of this network, and do not rule out further arrests in the coming hours. González Rivas will be brought to justice in the coming hours. With her detention, the number of those arrested totals five, two women and three men. DNCD agents and members of the Specialized Airport Security Corps began an investigation more than four months ago, after seizing eight packages of cocaine in August of this year at Las Américas International Airport, JFPG. The acting units, accompanied by detector dogs, were carrying out inspection work on warehouses and cargo bound for Madrid, Spain, when they detected suspicious objects inside one of the trash cans, used to dispose of waste from the aircraft kitchens. The container was taken to the verification area, where eight packages of cocaine were confiscated, with a total weight of 8.23 kilograms, according to the analysis carried out by the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF). Security forces reaffirm their firm commitment to arrest and bring to justice those who violate Law 50-88 on drugs and controlled substances.
