Santo Domingo.- The president, Luis Abinader, congratulated this Monday the president-elect of Costa Rica, Laura Fernández, for her victory in the elections held on Sunday in Costa Rica.

At the same time, he underscored his Government’s commitment “to continue consolidating our Alliance for Development in Democracy, as we have done with President Rodrigo Chaves.” Fernández, from the right-wing Sovereign People’s Party, became the winner of the Costa Rican presidential elections on Sunday, obtaining 48.5% of the votes with 88.4% of the tables counted, well above the 40% needed to win in the first round. The candidate, a 39-year-old political scientist, defeated candidate Álvaro Ramos, of the social democratic National Liberation Party, who garnered 32.12% of the votes, according to the results issued by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal. The new ruler, who was Minister of the Presidency and Planning of the current Government, has proclaimed herself as the “heir” of outgoing President Rodrigo Chaves.
