Santo Domingo.- The National Police reported that Joel Henry Aponte, alias “Brujito”, 23 years old, died after being wounded in an alleged exchange of gunfire with agents of the Southeastern Regional Investigation Sub-directorate (DICRIM) in San Pedro de Macorís.
According to the preliminary report, Aponte was wanted under an arrest warrant for his alleged participation in the death of Raúl Núñez, alias “Rulo”, 20 years old, which occurred last March 4 in the Villa Progreso II sector.
The authorities indicated that the young man was located during search and intelligence operations and that, allegedly, he opened fire on the agents, who repelled the aggression. After being wounded, he was taken to the Doctor Antonio Musa Regional Teaching Hospital, where he died while receiving medical attention.

During the intervention, the agents seized a 9-millimeter Glock 19 pistol that was being carried illegally. In addition, 21-year-old Edwin Michael Scioscia, who was accompanying Aponte, was arrested and had a 9-millimeter Smith & Wesson pistol confiscated from him without legal documentation.
The DICRIM Homicide Division indicated that the investigations and evidence collected link Aponte to the homicide of Núñez, a case that remains under investigation.
