San Pedro de Macorís.— A 23-year-old man died after being wounded in an incident in which agents of the Central Investigation Directorate (DICRIM) were allegedly involved, under circumstances that are still under investigation.
The victim was identified as Joel Henry Aponte, a resident of the 24 de Abril sector. According to reports from his relatives, the young man had been detained alive by members of DICRIM and subsequently transferred to the Dr. Antonio Musa Regional Hospital with multiple wounds, where he died while receiving medical attention.
The complaint was filed by his uncle, Fernando Aponte, president of the United Human Rights Society, who demanded a clear explanation from the authorities regarding what happened and the clarification of the circumstances surrounding his nephew’s death.

So far, the Southeast Regional Directorate of the National Police has not issued an official version regarding the incident, which has generated concern and indignation among family members, friends, and residents of the community.
The authorities continue the investigations to determine the corresponding responsibilities
