SANTO DOMINGO. – The communicator and analyst Ángel Martínez appeared this Tuesday before the Prosecutor’s Office of the National District, in response to a complaint for alleged defamation filed by the deputy of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), Sergio “Gory” Moya.

Upon his arrival at the court, Martínez was accompanied by his lawyer Carlos Mesa, who stated that his client has fully complied with each court summons. “Ángel Martínez has shown clear signs of respect for the process. Today he attended early, as he always has, and is ready to defend himself responsibly,” said the lawyer. Mesa explained that it is a private process, although with penal implications, and reiterated that his client will act in accordance with the established legal guidelines. “We are facing a process for alleged defamatory expressions. We believe in freedom of expression, but also in respect for institutionalism,” he pointed out. The communicator did not offer statements to the press when leaving the hearing, although his legal team hinted that he feels confident that he will be able to dismantle the accusations. Moya’s lawsuit adds to other similar processes that have involved public figures and communicators, amid a tense climate between political actors and media representatives. The case will continue its course with new hearings set by the court in the coming weeks.
