Santo Domingo. – Banco de Reservas fully financed the 700 apartments of the San José residential complex, delivered this Friday by President Luis Abinader as part of the National Family Happy Housing Plan, an initiative aimed at expanding access for Dominican families to decent housing solutions.

Engineer Alieska Díaz, Senior Executive Vice President of Administration at Banreservas, who spoke on behalf of Dr. Leonardo Aguilera, Executive President of the institution, during the event in Santo Domingo Norte, highlighted that the entity allocated approximately RD$1.6 billion to finance the 700 units of the housing complex, with a fixed interest rate of 8% per year for seven years for the buyers.

“It is the best interest rate on the market and is supported by a strategic alliance between Banreservas, the Ministry of Housing, and our partners in the private sector, because we see much more than a business opportunity in the housing projects of the Happy Family program,” stated Díaz.

The executive added that, when a family gains access to their own home, it not only improves their quality of life, but also contributes to the strengthening of more stable communities and the social development of the country.

Likewise, he highlighted that the residential area offers adequate conditions for the integral development of families, with safe spaces and a favorable environment for the upbringing and growth of their children.

Díaz reported that, at the time of the official handover of the residential complex, 430 buyers had completed their financing process and formalized the acquisition of their homes, benefiting more than 1,300 Dominicans who are beginning a new chapter under a roof of their own, safe and dignified. He specified that the number of financed beneficiaries will continue to increase in the coming days as the remaining buyers conclude the corresponding procedures.

During the event, President Luis Abinader reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to access to decent housing for Dominican families, through programs that facilitate the acquisition of low-cost homes.

For his part, the Minister of Housing, Habitat and Buildings, Víctor “Ito” Bisonó, highlighted that the initiative constitutes one of the clearest expressions of a public policy focused on people.

“When we talk about housing, we are talking about much more than concrete, blocks, or apartments; we are talking about peace of mind, stability, the future, and, above all, families,” the official stated.

Bisonó highlighted that nearly 60% of the holders are women and a significant proportion corresponds to young people between 18 and 35 years old, evidencing the program’s impact on strategic sectors for national development.

The minister also pointed out that the State’s support has been fundamental in facilitating access to these homes, through subsidies exceeding RD$477 million.

“That support from the Government makes the difference and allows thousands of Dominicans to take the most important step of their patrimonial life: becoming owners of their home,” he maintained.

Project contemplates more than 1,500 homes

For his part, Manuel Emilio Bisonó Pacheco, manager of the San José residential complex, stressed that this delivery represents a firm step in the goal of guaranteeing decent housing to hundreds of Dominican families.

“Decent housing is not a privilege, it is a right that belongs to every Dominican family,” he stated.

He indicated that the development, conceived under criteria of sustainability and integral well-being, includes its own aqueduct, wastewater treatment system, electrical networks, green areas, recreational spaces, and paved streets.

He also explained that the initiative includes more than 1,500 housing units in different stages, intended for low-income families, becoming one of the most far-reaching housing developments executed under the Happy Family Plan.

About the residential

The San José residential complex is part of the National Family Happy Housing Plan and offers apartments with an approximate value of RD$2.8 million per unit. The complex features children’s play areas, a gazebo for social activities, and spacious green areas intended for the enjoyment of the residents.

The initiative is part of the government strategy aimed at reducing the housing deficit and expanding opportunities for access to home ownership for thousands of Dominicans.
