Santiago. – An inmate of the Rafey Men’s Correction and Rehabilitation Center (CCR) staged an attempted escape on Tuesday afternoon, which led to a large security deployment in the vicinity of the prison. The man was finally located and re-arrested inside a house near the penitentiary.
The inmate, who verbally identified himself as Franklin Star, has not been officially confirmed by the authorities, who have not yet specified his identity, nor his legal situation, sentence, or coercive measure in effect at the time of the escape.
The incident was recorded in a video that was widely circulated on social media, where the man is seen on the second level of a house near the prison, wearing a green t-shirt, a common garment of the CCR Rafey Hombres uniform.
Prison authorities reinforced security controls at the facility and continue to investigate the circumstances that allowed the escape, as well as possible implications of the escape.
