Clash between transport routes leaves injured and vandalized vehicles in Rafey, Santiago

Santiago. – A confrontation between drivers of the F and S-O routes left several drivers injured and at least a dozen public transport vehicles with material damage, during a violent incident that occurred on Tuesday afternoon at the entrance to the Rafey sector, in the west zone of this city. According to information gathered at the scene, the dispute would have originated from the rejection by a group of drivers of the F route to the operation of the new S-O route. According to transporters and users, the conflict has been generating tensions for months without the authorities having achieved a definitive solution.

Witnesses reported that the situation quickly escalated to physical assaults and stone-throwing, affecting both drivers and public transport units traveling through the area. Some drivers suffered blows and minor injuries, while several vehicles had broken windows and dents. Members of the National Police intervened to restore order and prevent the conflict from spreading to other parts of the sector. During the operation, several drivers allegedly involved in the fight were arrested.

Persistent Conflict

Drivers consulted indicated that the dispute over passenger control and routes has caused recurring clashes, threats, and episodes of tension that put at risk both the drivers and the users. “This is not new. We need the authorities to sit us down at a dialogue table before a major tragedy occurs,” expressed one of the affected drivers. Public transport users reported that clashes have become a frequent problem in the Rafey area, affecting the safety and regularity of the service. So far, the competent authorities have not reported what measures they will take to mediate the conflict and ensure safety in public transport in Santiago.
