Santo Domingo. – The woman who died on June 23rd while in the custody of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) was identified as Ellen Frances Hulett, a citizen of the United States, thanks to the use of biometric facial recognition technology. Her identity had remained unknown for several weeks, after being found in a vulnerable situation and without documents.
Hulett was arrested on April 22 in the community of Sabana de la Mar, where she was found disoriented, unable to identify herself, and showing signs of severe emotional and mental deterioration. She was diagnosed by specialists with a psychotic disorder.
Despite efforts to obtain information through conventional methods, it was not possible to confirm who it was until facial recognition technology was used, which allowed verification of their identity.
On June 23, while being prepared for a routine medical evaluation, the health personnel noticed that she showed no vital signs.
