The former honorary advisor to the Dominican government for Free Zones, Fabio Augusto Jorge-Puras, voluntarily surrendered to United States authorities to answer accusations related to his alleged participation in an international drug trafficking network.
The delivery took place last Friday in the city of Miami, where it was taken into custody by agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

The legal process is being heard in the
Southern District of Florida Court and is part of a broader investigation that also involves
Gaspar Antonio Polanco Virella, former director of Public Services of the Ayuntamiento del Distrito Nacional, who surrendered to US authorities in mid-October of last year.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Jorge-Puras and Polanco Virella were allegedly part of a
transnational criminal organization dedicated to the trafficking of cocaine from the Dominican Republic and Colombia to U.S. territory. Both face charges for
conspiracy to distribute and import five kilograms or more of cocaine.
The accusation alleges that the events occurred between
2019 and 2020, a period during which the accused allegedly coordinated logistical and financial operations related to the shipment of drug shipments. The case continues under investigation while judicial proceedings advance in the United States.
