Santiago.- The intense rains recorded on the afternoon of this Friday caused new floods in several municipalities and sectors of the province of Santiago, seriously affecting vehicular circulation and generating concern among residents, according to the Civil Defense.
The provincial director of the organization, Francisco Arias, indicated that among the most affected areas are the municipalities of Villa González, Navarrete, Puñal, Tamboril, Licey, and the municipal district of Santiago Oeste, in addition to other vulnerable sectors of the territory.
Arias explained that, although no victims or injured people have been reported, the rains caused momentary overflows of streams and flooding of homes, which forced the rescue organizations to remain on alert.
Likewise, several of the main avenues of the city, such as Circunvalación Sur, 27 de Febrero and Estrella Sadhalá, were seriously affected by the accumulation of water, generating long traffic jams and chaos for several hours.
The director of Civil Defense urged the population to pay attention to the official information issued by the Emergency Operations Center (COE) and the National Meteorology Institute (Onamet), given the possibility of new overflows of rivers, streams and ravines during the night.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, while rapid response teams remain activated to address any eventuality caused by the rains.
