Lima.- The International Labour Organization (
ILO) announced this Monday that it will hold its twentieth American Regional Meeting (RRA) in Punta Cana, from October 1 to 3 of this year, where delegates from governments and workers in the region will meet to examine progress and exchange experiences to promote decent work and social justice.
“The Government of the Dominican Republic will host this important event that will bring together the protagonists of political, economic and social life of the countries of the region to join efforts for decent work in the region,” said the ILO when confirming that the president of the Caribbean country, Luis Abinader, will speak at the opening session of the Meeting.
The ILO reported through a statement that the discussions will focus on key issues that have long-term implications for the world of work in the Americas, such as job creation, social protection, and sustainable development.
They will also address the strengthening of democratic institutions, respect for fundamental rights and institutionalized social dialogue, as well as achieving a just transition towards resilient societies.

The regional meeting will also examine strategies for public policies to improve skills and vocational training and the ILO’s contribution to the current challenges of labor markets in the Americas, such as informality and inequality.
The government delegates who will travel to Punta Cana will also analyze the report by the ILO Director-General, Gilbert F. Houngbo, prepared for the RRA and entitled ‘Strengthening the Nexus between Growth, Employment and Rights: Social Justice as the Foundation of Lasting Peace’.
The meeting will combine various group meetings with the participation of governments, employers and workers, plenary sessions and will conclude with the reading of the document adopting conclusions.
