Santo Domingo.– Judge Rigoberto Sena, from the Permanent Attention Office of the National District, imposed this Monday three months of preventive detention as a coercive measure against Alexander León, accused of attempting to murder his ex-partner, Yoselin Sánchez, in an incident that occurred on the night of January 21, 2024.

“This victim is alive thanks to a design of God. The defendant did everything necessary to assassinate her: he planned an entire criminal scheme that only a sick mind can devise against a woman who was his partner,” Mesa expressed upon leaving the hearing. He added that León carried out at least five violent acts on different dates, and that the attempted murder was the culmination of a systematic pattern of abuse. The lawyer also reported that after the attack, León remained a fugitive for more than a year (exactly 367 days) during which he continued to threaten Yoselin, her family and even her youngest son. “That person represents a real danger. He is a monster. He cannot return to the streets,” he stated. For her part, Yoselin Sánchez stated she felt relieved by the measure, but reiterated her fear that her aggressor would try to kill her again. “If they let him go, he’ll come to kill me. Even from where he is, he continues to threaten my child. I hope he serves the 30 years he deserves,” she expressed with a firm voice and a serene face. The judge ordered the immediate transfer of the accused to the National Penitentiary of La Victoria. The case remains under investigation, and the Prosecutor’s Office does not rule out requesting a legal qualification that could lead to a sentence of up to 30 years in prison.
