Eleven detainees from one of the most violent Dominican Don’t Play cells in Madrid

Madrid.– The Spanish Police have dismantled one of the most active and violent cells of the youth gang Dominican Don’t Play (DDP) in Madrid, in an operation in which eleven people have been arrested, of whom ten are already serving preventive prison sentences. The investigation began last January following an assault on a young man who has no relation to this type of gang, but who was on a street dominated by the rival gang of the Trinitarios in the Madrid district of Usera (south).

The brutal assault caused irreversible spinal cord injuries, the Police recalled this Monday. After months of investigation, between July 8 and 9, the agents carried out nine searches in properties, where they seized an assault submachine gun and a revolver, both imitation, ammunition, bladed weapons, a multitude of electronic devices, DDP symbology and texts, and a vehicle used in the investigated events. The ten provisionally imprisoned, belonging to the Choir of the 4 Jets of DDP, are accused of attempted murder, illegal possession of weapons and membership of a criminal organization. According to the chief inspector in charge of the investigation, the members of this gang went out one night in January “hunting” one of the members of the rival Trinitarios gang as revenge for a previous assault, in which five members of this DDP cell were injured by firearms. That day, upon not locating any members of the Trinitarios in Madrid capital or nearby towns, they attacked another young man with no relation, who was on the street waiting for a friend. He is currently still hospitalized due to serious spinal cord injuries. The Spanish Police consider that this operation has been “a hard blow” for this youth gang, which had control of the Carabanchel area (south of Madrid) because they believed themselves to be “unpunished”, as the victim of the assault did not know any of the attackers. Among those arrested, there are several leaders of this gang who were the ones organizing and ordering the aggressions. Although some people linked to the DDP remain at large, “they are not able to revive the chapter and are being watched,” according to the Police.
