Santo Domingo.- “I am very grateful for your kind offer, but to know that chicken has reached 125 pesos, you don’t have to go anywhere. I’d rather go to Moca”, this is how former president Leonel Fernández responded this Tuesday to President Luis Abinader regarding the message he sent during LA Semanal.

Fernández expressed himself in those terms after Abinader invited him to cover the expenses for him to travel to the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to learn about the government’s food programs. In that sense, Fernández asserted that “Dominican reality is not solved with international trips or speeches,” and criticized the state of the countryside and national production.

“You just have to go to Moca and ask the usual producers in this country if they have progressed or gone bankrupt during their Government,” he emphasized. Regarding the electricity sector, Fernández considered the government’s response to the blackout crisis insufficient.

“I understand your concern, but rather than apologizing, the Government needs to act and resolve,” he added.
