Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader stated this Monday that the remarks made by former President Leonel Fernández during the march of the Fuerza del Pueblo “are a clear sign that in the Dominican Republic we live fully in democracy”, while he highlighted that the natural role of the opposition is precisely to exercise opposition.
During his weekly meeting with the press, Abinader downplayed Fernández’s statements and maintained that they are part of the normal political dynamics in a democratic system. You may be interested in: http://JCE intima a Fuerza del Pueblo por presunta propaganda política anticipada
“You have seen that the opposition has congratulated the government for something (…). You have to get used to the opposition, to them expressing their complaints, it’s normal,” said the president.
Abinader reiterated that freedom of expression and criticism are fundamental pillars of the democratic climate that the country is experiencing, and that his administration will continue to respect, without restrictions, the right of all political actors to express themselves and express their public positions.
