Man wanted for the homicide of his ex-partner in Verón found dead in Puerto Plata

Puerto Plata.- The National Police reported that a man who was actively wanted by an arrest warrant for his alleged connection to the death of his romantic partner, in an event that occurred recently in Verón, Punta Cana, was found lifeless in a hotel room located in the El Gualete sector, Villa Isabela municipality, Puerto Plata.

It is Leandro Almonte Lantigua, 45 years old, whose body was found on the afternoon of June 1, 2026, in a hotel room located in the municipality of Villa Isabela, Puerto Plata province.

According to the death certificate, the death occurred due to poisoning from the ingestion of a toxic substance, which is why the authorities are investigating the case as a possible suicide.

Almonte Lantigua was wanted under arrest warrant No. 02121-2026 for his alleged responsibility in the stab wounds that caused the death of Yuri Ernestina Pichardo, in an incident that occurred on May 30, 2026, in Verón, Punta Cana.

The Public Ministry and investigative agencies carried out the corresponding removal, while the body was transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) for the required procedures. Investigations are ongoing.
