Mother dies after being hit by a minibus in Los Botados, Yamasá

Monte Plata.– Yessica Santana Payano, 31 years old, died on the afternoon of this Monday after the scooter she was riding was hit by a public transport bus, in an incident that occurred in the Barrio Nuevo sector of the municipal district of Los Botados, Yamasá municipality, in the province of Monte Plata. The young woman was standing behind a school bus from the School Transportation System (TRAE) when she was hit by a bus from the Yamasá Transportation Association (Asotrayasa). Santana Payano, who worked at a lottery bank, leaves two children orphaned, aged 7 and 9. According to a family member, Yessica had only been gone for five minutes when she went out to look for the scooter to pick up her children from school, as they had not returned home. The body was lifted by the medical examiner, who certified that the young woman died due to the multiple traumas received during the impact. The body was handed over to her family for the corresponding purposes.

From their side, community residents lamented the tragedy and denounced that accidents are frequent in the area due to the lack of control in transportation. Other community members pointed out that bus and double cab drivers act recklessly, especially during school dispatch hours, not respecting the signal and when there is greater vehicular flow.

“The authorities must take control. Transportation leaders need to guide their drivers to avoid more tragedies. Today we lose a mother of two children due to reckless driving,” said Juan Rafael Payano.

The residents of the municipal district said they hope that the managers of the transportation routes and the municipal authorities will take action to improve road safety.

“It’s a tragedy for the whole district. Hopefully, they will educate drivers to drive with caution, because due to recklessness, a life has been lost and two children are left without their mother,” they indicated.
