National Council of the Magistracy decides not to confirm SCJ magistrates evaluated this Thursday

Santo Domingo. – The National Council of the Magistracy (CNM), e headed by President Luis Abinader, concluded this Friday the performance evaluation phase of three judges of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) who were seeking to remain in office. At the end of this process, Nancy Salcedo, member and secretary of the Council, reported the decision not to confirm magistrates Pilar Jiménez Ortiz, Manuel Alexis Gris, and Moisés Ferrer, who have already served seven years in the position, as established by law.

The motivations behind this decision are outlined in the official CNM minutes, which will be published on the institutional website for the public’s knowledge. These three vacancies are added to the existing ones, corresponding to magistrates Napoleón Estévez and Blas Fernández, who declined to continue in the evaluation process. Thus, five positions within the Supreme Court of Justice are enabled. Selection of new Thursdays will begin this October 6th To continue with the established schedule, Magistrate Salcedo added that the selection process for new judges will begin next Monday, October 6, with the opening of the call for the presentation of candidacies to the Supreme Court of Justice and the Superior Electoral Tribunal. Interested parties may submit their applications to the Council Secretariat, in accordance with the deadlines and requirements established in the previously approved schedule. This process was carried out in strict adherence to the principles of transparency, publicity, and participation, evaluating the annual performance reports and conducting public interviews with the magistrates undergoing evaluation.
