Santiago.- The Dominican Government intensified the monitoring of the main development projects in Santiago and the Cibao region, while supporting the update of Santiago’s Municipal Land Use Plan, a tool considered key to organizing urban growth and defining where the city should advance.
The Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, reported that during his workday in Santiago he has met with productive sectors, associations, interest groups, city councils, and representatives of various government institutions to directly evaluate regional and national projects that impact the Cibao region.
Paliza revealed that the agenda includes monitoring strategic areas such as health, electric power, and other government agencies, under a coordination dynamic that, as he stated, allows for identifying needs and accelerating responses.
The official placed special emphasis on the process that the Santiago Mayor’s Office is developing to update its Municipal Land Use Plan, after meeting with municipal authorities to learn about the progress of that initiative.
“I have just come from the Santiago City Hall, looking at the update of the municipal land use plan”, explained Paliza, who highlighted that the Ministry of the Presidency has specific responsibilities in this matter based on the new legislation on land use planning.

The initiative gains relevance in a city that maintains accelerated urban growth and faces challenges related to housing expansion, infrastructure, mobility, public services, and proper land use.
Paliza maintained that the coordination between the central government and municipal governments will allow for closer monitoring of works and projects, preventing community needs from being addressed in isolation.
“It is a win-win dynamic and I believe we all value the meaning it has,” the minister stated, while defending the joint work scheme being developed in Santiago and other locations in the Cibao region.

The official indicated that the agenda will continue with visits and meetings with city councils and public entities in the region, in an effort to follow up on the ground on the commitments made and the projects that are part of the national and regional planning.
With this strategy, the Government seeks for Santiago not only to advance in the execution of works, but also to define with greater precision how and in which direction the city will grow in the coming years.
