The congressman, author of Law 63-17 on Mobility, Land Transportation, Transit and Road Safety, highlighted that the motorcycle fleet in the country amounts to 1,416,016 units, of which 332,763 (23.5%) are in the National District. This, according to the study “Motorcycle Commercialization Sector, Realities that impact the month of January of this year”, delivered by the Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers Dealers (AFAMOTO). Crespo pledged to continue promoting initiatives from Congress to strengthen this sector, which continues to grow and constitutes a key means of transportation, especially for households with lower economic incomes. The report was delivered by a delegation from AFAMOTO, headed by its president Darío Lama (Avant Autos SAS), along with María Isabel Bellapart (Agencia Bella SAS), Eric Díaz (LR Caribbean Tuf RSL), Félix Santana (Nipponia Caribe SRL) and other members of the sector. According to the study, motorcycle imports contributed $97 million in 2024. Furthermore, with over 1.4 million units in circulation, tax revenue from gasoline is estimated to exceed 15.23 million pesos, surpassing the records of 2023. In the National District, motorcycle taxi drivers are essential for urban mobility, transporting hundreds of passengers daily. Their daily work includes an average of 36 trips at a cost of 75 pesos per ride, which represents approximate earnings of 2,300 pesos daily, 13,800 pesos weekly, and 55,200 pesos monthly. The motorcycle sector also generates indirect jobs in related commerce and services. Of the total of 185,000 employed in the sector, 84.4% use the motorcycle as a means of transport, while 15.6% are dedicated to services and commerce related to the vehicle.Tobías Crespo highlights the importance of motorcycle taxi drivers: sector generates 97 million dollars in imports
SANTO DOMINGO,.- The deputy of the No. 2 constituency of the National District for the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP), Tobías Crespo, assured that motoconcho drivers constitute an important reality in the country, both as job creators and in their economic contribution.
Crespo indicated that, according to the National Continuous Labor Force Survey of the Central Bank, the estimated population of motoconcho drivers is 124,542 people, a figure that exceeds by 0.6% the total number of employees in free zones nationwide, according to the latest study of 2024.
