London.– Long before becoming one of the best-known technology entrepreneurs in the world, Elon Musk already showed skills that caught his mother’s attention. Maye Musk says that at three years old she began to consider him an exceptional child, although his childhood was also marked by difficulties in relating to others and episodes of bullying.
In an interview with The Telegraph, regarding her memoir Timeless: The Art of Reinvention and Resilience at Any Age, Maye explains that her son reasoned in a way that was uncommon for a child of that age. However, she asserts that she never imagined that that ability would end up leading him to build companies valued at billions of dollars.
According to his mother’s account, Elon was very different from his siblings, Kimbal and Tosca. While they made friends easily, he had few friends and, from the age of six, found entertainment primarily in books, video games, and computers.
School was not easy either. During her adolescence, she suffered bullying from other students, and on one occasion, she was beaten with such intensity that she had to be taken to a hospital, Maye recalls in the book.
In the classroom, his teachers described him as a dreamy student who had difficulty relating to others. He also showed no interest in sports or in those subjects that did not spark his curiosity, although he excelled especially in physics and mathematics.

Reading, programming, and working with computers took up a good part of his time. Maye remembers that she and her other two children even called him “our encyclopedia” because of his ability to accurately remember what he had read.
Although she acknowledges that she could never have anticipated how far her son would go, Maye Musk asserts that she continues to support him. She also expresses her concern for him and considers that his trajectory has made him a prominent figure in innovation and technological development.
