Mexico City.- ‘Shrek 5’ released its first trailer in Spanish this Tuesday, in which it revealed the participation of Mexican actor Eugenio Derbez as the voice of Donkey, a return highly anticipated by fans of the DreamWorks saga and which the performer himself also confirmed on his social media.
In the trailer released by Universal Pictures Mexico, it is distinguished by the Mexican accent and colloquial expressions led by Derbez and Dulce Guerrero, who returns to the Kingdom of Far Far Away to play Fiona in the feature film that will premiere on July 30, 2027.
Although one of the main controversies surrounding the return of the animated film is the absence of Alfonso Obregón as the voice of Shrek, since the Spanish trailer showed the character with a new voice actor, whose identity has not yet been confirmed.
Controversy over Obregón’s absence
Obregón’s participation in the film was left in doubt after the voice actor posted a video on social media in January 2026, in which he stated that he would not return to the project if the production company did not grant him fair financial compensation and recognition as the film’s dubbing director.

“If the company that is going to take over ‘Shrek 5’ doesn’t talk to me and we don’t sit down to discuss giving me my credit when the movie starts (…) and settle things regarding the dough (money), I won’t do it, it’s no big deal,” he stated at the time in a message posted on his official Instagram account.
In the dubbing industry in Mexico, Obregón stands out for having voiced Shrek since the release of the first film in 2001, in addition to playing characters such as Bugs Bunny and Kakashi Hatake in ‘Naruto’.
However, the career of the dubbing teacher has also been marked by accusations of sexual abuse filed by some of his students, allegations that led to his arrest by the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office in 2024.
