A 37-year-old man pleaded guilty to the first-degree murder of 16-year-old Miranda Corsette after authorities accused him of holding and torturing the teenager for a week before her death.
During Wednesday’s court hearing, Steven Gress said he would prefer the death penalty over spending decades in prison. He also laughed while discussing his possible sentence, saying that “life or death” was a situation in which he would lose either way.
Gress acknowledged his involvement in the teenager’s death but attempted to minimize his responsibility, saying he did not kill Miranda directly. His sentencing phase is expected to be scheduled in November, while co-defendant Michelle Brandes remains under prosecution.
