Milei seeks votes in the second electoral district ahead of Sunday’s legislative elections

Buenos Aires.- Argentine President Javier Milei participated this Tuesday in an electoral campaign event in Córdoba, the second largest district in terms of voters in the country, ahead of next Sunday’s national legislative elections in which La Libertad Avanza (LLA), his political force, aims to increase its representatives in Congress. Hundreds of supporters of the national ruling party accompanied the president on a walk through the center of the city of Córdoba, capital of the province of the same name, which has just over three million voters, placing it in second place behind the province of Buenos Aires, which has 13 million people eligible to vote this Sunday.

The president was transported by an official van to a busy central corner, from which he got out to walk a few meters among the shouts and songs of his supporters, who were trying to take a photo or greet him, and finally get on the roof of the car, in a format similar to other activities he carried out in cities like Santiago del Estero and Tucumán. With a megaphone, he shouted that since the beginning of his Government “nine million people stopped being poor” and that they are “exterminating insecurity”. “Freedom advances or Argentina retreats,” he added, repeating the electoral slogan of his political force in 2025. Alongside him were Karina Milei, his sister and Secretary General of the Presidency; and Gonzalo Roca, the main candidate for the Lower House for LLA of Córdoba. Near the far-right demonstration, a demonstration by left-wing parties and self-convened citizens gathered to repudiate the president’s presence in the city. This Thursday, the far-right leader will hold his last campaign event in the city of Rosario, the main city of the also populous province of Santa Fe, but will not participate in new public appearances in the province of Buenos Aires, where polls indicate that LLA will be defeated by Peronism. Earlier this Tuesday, Milei announced that he will carry out a remodeling of his Government after the elections, in order to achieve the structural reforms he outlined for the second part of his term, mainly in fiscal and labor matters. “Looking ahead to the second part of this term, I am going to reshuffle the Cabinet to achieve the objectives of the second-generation reforms. On the 26th, at night, with all the numbers, I will see what kind of framework I need to achieve the objectives,” Milei said in an interview with TV Pública. A report published by the local media outlet Clarín based on the last ten private polls conducted in Argentina, concludes that LLA maintains on average a 2.2-point lead over the main Peronist coalition, Fuerza Patria (37.1% vs. 34.9%), a gap that would represent a technical tie, as that is the estimated margin of error.
