A mother and daughter have been charged with operating an alleged retail theft and resale scheme that targeted major stores in New York, with stolen merchandise allegedly resold locally and shipped to the Dominican Republic.
Prosecutors identified the suspects as María “Glenny” Betances, 47, and Leslie Cruz, 24. Authorities allege they directed accomplices to steal high-demand products, including cosmetics and clothing, from retailers such as Marshalls, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods, CVS and Ulta Beauty.
Investigators said more than 5,000 allegedly stolen items worth nearly $160,000 were recovered during searches of the suspects’ homes, along with $30,000 in cash. Officials also allege one of the residences operated as a daycare.
The pair face charges including criminal possession of stolen property, grand larceny and conspiracy. Prosecutors say they could face between five and 15 years in prison if convicted.
