NEW YORK. New York authorities are investigating the death of a 34-year-old woman found inside her home in the borough of Queens, while, hours later, her husband’s body was located in a nearby park, in a case that is preliminarily being handled as a possible murder-suicide.

According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), officers responded during the early morning hours to a residence located in the Astoria sector after receiving a 911 emergency call alerting them to a domestic altercation. Upon entering the property, they found Mary Kate Golding, 34, with a stab wound to her back and showing no signs of life.

Emergency services confirmed the woman’s death at the scene. The couple’s son, a baby of approximately 11 months, was also found unharmed in the apartment and has been placed in the care of relatives.

The investigation subsequently led the investigators to Astoria Park, where, several hours later, the body of Joseph Azzaretto, the victim’s husband, was located. According to preliminary information released by the authorities, the man was found hanging from a tree.

So far, no charges have been filed, nor has the sequence of events been officially determined. However, detectives consider the primary hypothesis to be an episode of murder-suicide related to a conflict between the couple. The investigation is still ongoing.

The New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner will be responsible for officially establishing the causes of both deaths, while the NYPD continues to collect evidence and interview potential witnesses to clarify the case.
