A 69-year-old woman was allegedly scammed out of about $5,000 worth of jewelry after two men approached her in Woodhaven, Queens, and convinced her to exchange the valuables for a supposedly winning lottery ticket.
According to the NYPD, the suspects told the woman they could not claim the lottery prize because of their immigration status. She agreed to give them her jewelry in exchange for the ticket.
After receiving the valuables, the men allegedly asked the woman to buy pain medication at a nearby pharmacy before fleeing. When she later attempted to cash the lottery ticket, she discovered it had no value.
Police are investigating and searching for the suspects, who were reportedly traveling in a gray BMW SUV.
