In the best of his 28 laps, Piastri, a four-time winner this year, covered the 4,675 meters of the Catalan track in one minute, 12 seconds and 760 milliseconds, 286 less than the English George Russell (Mercedes) and with 310 over the four-time world champion Max Verstappen (Red Bull), who placed third in the time sheet, with the same time as the other McLaren, that of the English Lando Norris -who achieved it later-, who, like the previous ones, marked it with the soft tire and before carrying out a race simulation.
Alonso, having resolved the problems of the first test – which had concluded thirteenth – placed seventh in the time table of the afternoon session, in which the best laps of the day were set. The double world champion from Asturias – new ambassador of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, where he achieved two of his 32 victories in F1 – completed 28 laps and in his best attempt was 541 thousandths of a second behind Piastri.
Sainz finished fourteenth. In a session that concluded with 29 degrees Celsius ambient temperature and 43 on the asphalt and in which, except for a spin by the Englishman Olvier Bearman (Haas), there were no major incidents.
The 21-year-old from Buenos Aires, Colapinto, in his third race after his return to F1, set the twentieth time of the afternoon session – in which he did 31 laps – and of the day: one second and 543 thousandths of a second behind Piastri.
