Kansas City.— The Toronto Blue Jays are celebrating in style after officially confirming their return to the postseason, leaving behind years of frustrations and doubts. The 8-5 victory over the Kansas City Royals not only gave them the ticket to October, but also keeps them focused on a bigger goal: conquering the American League East Division title, something they haven’t achieved since 2015.
“I’m so happy for them,” expressed manager John Schneider. “This is the most satisfying team I’ve been a part of. Everyone has put their egos aside to play for each other, and that’s what has us here.”
With a record of 90-66, Toronto has not only become the big surprise of 2025, but also boasts the best record in the American League, surpassing any preseason forecast. The most impressive thing: just a year ago they finished with a record of 74-88.
The combination of veterans and young talents has created a unique atmosphere in the clubhouse. The Dominican Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, George Springer, along with star pitchers like Kevin Gausman and Shane Bieber, are part of a group that now aims for more than just qualifying: winning.
The first major goal has already been achieved, but the real mission is still ongoing: securing the divisional crown to directly enter the Divisional Series, avoiding the always complicated Wild Card round, in which Toronto has been eliminated in its last three appearances (0-2 in each).
“You could feel it from Spring Training,” Schneider added. “This group was committed from day one, and today we see the results. But we know the biggest celebration is still to come.”
