CLEVELAND. – A moment of great tension was experienced this Tuesday at Progressive Field, when the designated hitter for the Guardians,
David Fry, had to leave the game after being hit in the face by a 99.1-mile-per-hour fastball from the left-hander
Tarik Skubal, during the sixth inning of the duel against the Detroit Tigers.

The incident occurred with the count at 2-1, when Fry tried to hit the ball and it bounced towards his face. The player immediately fell to the ground, covering himself with his hands while receiving medical attention from trainers
Jeff Desjardins and
Chad Wolfe, along with doctor
Kim Stearns.
After several minutes of attention, Fry was able to get up and left the field in an assistance cart towards the
Lutheran Medical Center for additional evaluations.
The pitcher Skubal himself showed his concern at the moment, dropping his glove and cap before putting his hands to his head.
Part of a decisive comeback
Fry’s turn was completed by
George Valera, who ended up striking out. However, that same inning proved key for the Guardians, who took advantage of defensive errors and a wild pitch by Skubal to manufacture three runs without hitting a single ball out of the infield.
Steven Kwan led off with a bunt single, followed by another bunt single by
Ángel Martínez that caused a throwing error. Then,
José Ramírez drove in the first run with an infield hit, while a
wild pitch allowed the second run and a groundout by
Gabriel Arias completed the comeback.
Cleveland ended up winning 5-2, catching up with Detroit at the top of the American League Central Division and keeping the direct fight for the divisional title alive at the end of the season.
