Giants stop Toros’ streak and achieve their first victory of the Round Robin

LA ROMANA.– Despite the outstanding offensive performances by Bryan De La Cruz and Eloy Jiménez, the Toros del Este were defeated 4-1 by the Gigantes del Cibao, on Thursday night, in the continuation of the Round Robin of the 2025-26 autumn-winter baseball tournament, dedicated to Cooperstown immortal Juan Marichal.

Eloy Jiménez continues to show offensive consistency by connecting for a hit in nine of the 10 games played in this stage, including an active streak of seven consecutive games, in addition to leading the Round Robin with six doubles.
For his part, Bryan De La Cruz has gotten on base in all the games he has participated in, with hits in eight of the nine games. The victory went to reliever Bryan Rodríguez (1-0), while Jimmy Cordero earned the save. The loss went to starting pitcher Jaime Barría (0-1), who pitched 4.1 innings, allowed three runs, one earned, with four hits, four walks and two strikeouts.

Match Development

The Giants took the lead in the first inning, when Gustavo Núñez received a walk, advanced to third on a single by Francisco Mejía and scored on a groundout by Deyvison De los Santos. In the third episode, José Siri connected a towing single to extend the lead to 2-0. In the bottom of that inning, the Toros responded with a producer’s unstoppable hit by Bryan De La Cruz, which allowed Rudy Martin Jr. to score, putting the score at 2-1. The Cibaeña team added one more run in the fifth inning, again through a ground ball by De los Santos, and sealed the score in the ninth, after a walk to Eddinson Paulino, a stolen base, an advance due to an error, and a run scored with a ground ball to the infield. For the Giants, Gustavo Núñez stood out, with one RBI and one run scored; Ismael Munguía, went 2-1 with two walks and two runs scored; José Siri, with one run batted in; and Deyvison De los Santos, with one RBI. For the Toros, Bryan De La Cruz went 2-for-4, with a triple and an RBI; Eloy Jiménez went 3-for-4 with two doubles; and Rudy Martin Jr. scored the only run for the team from La Romana. The Toros will continue their participation this Friday, when they receive the Águilas Cibaeñas at the Francisco A. Micheli Stadium, starting at 7:30 PM, with Enny Romero announced as the starting pitcher.
