United States – Jen Pawol became the first woman to serve as the home plate umpire in a regular season Major League Baseball game this Sunday, in the game between the Atlanta Braves and the Miami Marlins, played at Truist Park.

The feat occurred just one day after Pawol debuted in MLB, marking a new chapter in his already pioneering career. The match, which concluded with a home victory of 7-1, was full of competitive normality, but also of moments of recognition for his achievement.
One of them arrived in the fourth inning, when the Braves’ pitching coach, Rick Kranitz, visited starter Joey Wentz. The crowd interrupted with applause upon noticing Pawol’s presence approaching the mound.
“It’s been a whirlwind,” the umpire commented to the coach, who did not hesitate to congratulate her: “She handled it excellently. This only happens once in history and it’s incredible.”
The protagonists on the field also valued her work. “I think it was good. You could tell she was prepared,” said Cal Quantrill, Marlins’ opener. “She must be very proud of herself. It’s great to be a part of this, although, on the other hand, it’s just another day at work.”
In the same vein, Miami manager Clayton McCullough highlighted Pawol’s composure and management behind the plate. “It’s a great day for her and for Major League Baseball. I wish her the best on her path to becoming a full-time umpire.”
With this step, Pawol not only reaffirms her place in baseball history, but also opens new doors for future generations of women in professional umpiring.
