New York. – Juan Soto continues to leave his mark on Major League history. This Saturday, the New York Mets outfielder hit his 40th home run of the season, reaching this mark for the second consecutive season and being only eight stolen bases away from achieving the historic 40-40.
Soto’s hit came in the seventh inning against left-hander Hoby Milner, giving the Mets a 2-0 lead over the Texas Rangers at Citi Field. With this home run, the Dominican became the first Mets player to combine a season with 40 or more home runs and 30 or more stolen bases.
Soto is also very close to breaking his personal record of 41 home runs, achieved in 2024 with the New York Yankees, and to reaching 100 RBIs, as he only needs three RBIs to reach the round number.
In the entire history of Major League Baseball, only Barry Bonds (1996 and 1997) and Jeff Bagwell (1997) had recorded seasons with 40+ home runs, 30+ stolen bases, and 100+ walks. Soto now joins that elite group with the possibility of surpassing even those records if he manages to reach 40 steals.
