Lions manufacture decisive rally and defeat the Stars for the second day in a row

SAN PEDRO DE MACORÍS. – An explosive rally of five runs in the fifth inning propelled the Leones del Escogido to a 6-4 victory over the Estrellas Orientales early this Saturday at the Tetelo Vargas stadium, thus achieving their second consecutive win against the petromacorisanos..

The game began with a 1 hour and 10 minute delay due to the rain. Las Estrellas took the lead in the second inning with a solo home run by Rodolfo Durán to left field against the scarlet starter Lael Lockhart.

The Lions React and Take Control

The Escogido tied the score in the fourth inning against Óscar De la Cruz. Consecutive hits by Gio Urshela and Yamaico Navarro set the stage for a ground ball by Sócrates Brito to move Urshela to third, from where he scored on a single by Jorge Mateo to left field. The red comeback came in a big way in the fifth inning, in which they loaded the bases with no outs against De la Cruz. After his departure, a sacrifice fly by Urshela against Carlos Belén produced the first run of the rally. Then, Navarro hit a double to left to drive in two, and another tubey by Jasson Domínguez brought in the fifth. Later, singles by Brito and Mateo manufactured the sixth run for Escogido.

Stars press, but it’s not enough

The Greens scored with two annotations in the bottom of the fifth and added another in the ninth against Fernando Abad, who left the bases loaded with two outs. Closer Luis Guerrero (1) came in to complete the task and achieved the save by striking out Durán, author of the initial home run. The victory went to Rolddy Muñoz (2-0), who struck out two in one inning. De la Cruz (2-2) took the loss after allowing four runs.

Situation in the table and next commitment

With the victory, the Lions improve to “13-16”, while the Stars fall to “13-18”. Both teams will face each other again this Saturday at 4:00 PM at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal stadium.
