Caracas (EFE).- Alleged photographs of Nicolás Maduro were published this Sunday on the Venezuelan president’s social media as a small “gift of love and hope,” days after the governments of Venezuela and the U.S. announced an agreement that gives Washington control of more than 20% of the Caribbean country’s oil reserves.
“I send these photos as a small gift to all my grandsons and granddaughters, to the boys and girls, and to all the noble people who love us,” reads the message accompanying the images, which are dated June 25th, in which Maduro is seen wearing gray pants and a sweatshirt.
The photographs, published on Maduro’s accounts on various social networks, were shared by other members of Chavismo, as well as by the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).

Likewise, his son, deputy Nicolás Maduro Guerra, shared the images on his Instagram account.
In the message, allegedly sent by the deposed president, militants are invited to enjoy this «small gift with joy and hope».
“Cilia and I embrace you forever, with our souls set on you and with our faith in God intact,” the publication adds, in allusion to Cilia Flores, Maduro’s wife, who was captured by the U.S. along with the now-deposed leader during a military operation in Caracas on January 3rd.
Venezuela reaches agreement with the U.S., without mention of Nicolás Maduro
The United States and Venezuela resumed their diplomatic relations, broken for seven years, following the capture of Maduro, who is facing trial in New York for conspiracy to commit narco-terrorism and importation of cocaine, while Flores is accused of crimes related to drug importation and weapons possession.
On Saturday, the acting leader of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, who assumed the position after Maduro’s capture, reported that the oil agreement reached with the United States will be valid for 25 years with a production target of over 1.5 million barrels per day.
That same Saturday, a group of Chavistas protested in downtown Caracas to reject the presence of the United States in Venezuela and demand the release of Maduro and Flores.
