NEW YORK – On a night charged with power and drama at Yankee Stadium, Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge shone to keep the aspirations of the Bronx Bombers alive in the American League East Division. Stanton hit two home runs and drove in five runs, while Judge hit his 52nd home run of the season, in the Yankees’ 8-4 victory over the Orioles, their sixth in a row.
Stanton opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the first inning, against the left-hander Trevor Rogers, who had barely allowed three home runs in 106 2/3 innings before this start. In the third inning, after a three-run homer by Jordan Westburg that put Baltimore ahead, Judge responded with a two-run hit and Stanton added another monumental 451-foot home run, giving New York the lead back.
Stanton’s home run was the 452nd of his career, tying Carl Yastrzemski for 40th all-time. It was also the 58th time Judge and Stanton have homered in the same game (including postseason).
The Yankees’ bullpen held the Orioles at bay in key moments: Tim Hill escaped a bases-loaded jam in the sixth, and in the bottom half, Austin Wells drove in a run with a single, while Stanton added his fifth RBI with a groundout in the seventh.
With the victory, New York remains tied with the Toronto Blue Jays at the top of the division, with only two games left in the season. The Canadians defeated the Rays 4-2, and hold the advantage in a potential tiebreaker.
The Yankees also set a Major League record with their 48th home run in the first inning this season, surpassing the 2023 Braves’ mark (47).
With Judge in full race for another American League Most Valuable Player award and Stanton on fire at the end of the season, the Yankees continue to show the formula that keeps them as October contenders
