NEW YORK. – The New York Yankees paid tribute this Thursday to the victims and heroes of September 11, 2001 with a solemn pre-game ceremony at Yankee Stadium, which included the participation of manager Aaron Boone and pitchers Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodón, as well as the presence of President Donald J. Trump.

Hours before the meeting, Boone, Cole, and Rodón placed a bouquet of flowers at the monument erected in the Monument Park, dedicated to honoring the memory of those who died in the attacks, as well as the courage of the firefighters, rescuers, and emergency personnel who risked their lives that day. “It’s something you truly feel,” Boone expressed about it. “Honoring the victims, the Pentagon, the Twin Towers, the rescue dogs, and the firefighters is a very meaningful experience every time we do it.” In an official statement, the organization stated:The ceremony featured a historic moment: the presidential visit of Donald Trump, who was accompanied by club owner Hal Steinbrenner and team president Randy Levine. This is the third time a sitting president has attended a game at Yankee Stadium, but the first time at the stadium inaugurated in 2009. The tribute also evoked iconic moments from the past, such as when President George W. Bush made the ceremonial pitch in Game 3 of the 2001 World Series, and President Warren G. Harding‘s visit to the old stadium in 1923. As part of the tribute, the Yankees’ uniformed personnel wore first responder agency caps during the game, in a show of respect and solidarity with the heroes of 9/11.“We remember those we lost, the heroism of all who bravely sacrificed their own lives to save others, and those who died from illnesses contracted at Ground Zero. Their spirit lives on today with our first responders and all who serve our communities and our country.”
