PHILADELPHIA. LeBron James announced this Friday that he will play his 24th NBA season with the Philadelphia 76ers, ending his tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers and extending the record for the most seasons played in the history of the league.
The NBA’s all-time leading scorer confirmed the decision through his social media channels, where he stated that he is facing this new challenge with the goal of competing for another championship before ending his historic career.
“This is my final decision. I am not going for money. I still want to compete, win, and have the opportunity to conquer another championship,” expressed James.
The veteran forward, 41 years old, played the last eight seasons with the Lakers, the franchise with which he won the NBA championship in 2020. Before that, he wore the uniforms of the Cleveland Cavaliers, in two stints, and the Miami Heat, the team with which he won two consecutive titles.
James arrives in Philadelphia after another outstanding campaign in which he was selected for the 22nd consecutive time to the All-Star Game, a league record. In the 2025-2026 season, he averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists in 60 games.
Additionally, last March he surpassed Robert Parish‘s record as the player with the most regular season games played in NBA history.
With his arrival to the 76ers, LeBron will seek to close his career with a new championship and contribute his experience to a franchise that aspires to become a title contender.
