Pau Gasol, new president of the IOC Athletes’ Commission

Sports Writing. (EFE)– Former Spanish basketball player Pau Gasol was elected president of the Athletes’ Commission of the International Olympic Committee during the celebration of the Milan-Cortina Games.

Gasol had been part of this body since August 2, 2021, following his appointment at the end of the Tokyo Olympic Games. With his election, he will assume the representation of athletes in the IOC Executive Commission, reinforcing the voice of athletes within the highest Olympic body. The former Spanish international participated in five editions of the Olympic Games and won the silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics, in addition to the bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics. In addition to his new position, Gasol will continue as a member of the IOC Ethics Commission and the Coordination Commission for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, maintaining an active role in the organizational structure of the Olympic movement.
