Matías Almeyda was dismissed this Monday as coach of Sevilla, a team that is only three points away from the relegation zone after its defeat on Saturday against Valencia (0-2), with 32 official matches managed, 29 of them in LaLiga EA Sports and 3 in the Copa del Rey, the club announced in a statement.

Almeyda, who arrived at the Nervión neighborhood team last summer, leaves the Sevilla bench leaving the team in a delicate classification situation, sixteenth with 31 points after 8 wins, 7 draws and 14 defeats, with very negative feelings and a bad image, especially in their matches at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán stadium.
Negotiations for Almeyda’s Possible Replacement
Sevilla FC is negotiating with coach Luis García Plaza as a possible replacement for the coach of Azul (province of Buenos Aires), although other candidates such as Manolo Jiménez or Diego Martínez, with a past at the Seville club, have also been mentioned.
Almeyda, 52 years old, signed a three-year contract in the summer, until June 2028, to manage the Seville team and try to get it back to its level and the potential it had in this 21st century, after four seasons – including this one – in which in LaLiga it has had to fight for the goal of permanence.
With the Argentinian on the bench, Sevilla has accumulated 31 points, 16 of them in fifteen matches at their stadium and 15 away in 14 matches, and is the team with the most goals conceded in the First Division with 49 goals conceded, one more than Levante (48) and two more than Mallorca (47), who occupy the relegation zone, and three more than Elche (46), the rival that now marks salvation.
