Barcelona (EFE).- Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong is suffering from a tear in the medial collateral ligament of his right knee, an injury that occurred during the last World Cup, and will continue to undergo “medical treatment and monitoring,” as announced by FC Barcelona.

In it, the player and the entity’s medical services report that they will continue with this conservative treatment, pending its evolution over the coming weeks.
In an ‘Instagram’ post, De Jong recalls that he “normally” does not pay much attention to what is written about him regarding Barça or the Dutch national team, but admits that lately “there has been a lot of speculation” about his injury and also about his situation at Barça.
“I find it difficult to see people questioning my relationship and my commitment to the club, due to false information. Football is everything to me and I have always given my all for FC Barcelona and my country,” he asserted.
Injury at the World Cup
The Dutchman explained what happened in the last World Cup: “During the World Cup, I injured my knee. After the initial evaluations, the doctors told me it was a minor injury and that it wouldn’t get worse if I kept playing. The only challenge was playing with some pain, but throughout my career, I have always done so whenever I could to contribute to the team, both for my club and for my country.”
De Jong reveals that during his vacation he returned to Barcelona and underwent new medical examinations. “These showed that the injury was more serious than had been initially determined. Fortunately, at this stage, surgery is not necessary and I am now fully focused on my recovery and returning to the field as soon as possible,” he asserts.

He also insists that since he learned of his injury, he works every day to “be in the best possible shape,” as he takes his profession, his body, and his responsibility to the team “very seriously.”
“But sometimes there are things you cannot control and this injury is one of them. Playing for Barça and the ‘Oranje’ is something I feel incredibly proud of and my commitment to both will never change. I will continue to give everything for this badge, for my teammates and for our fans,” he concludes. EFE
