Madrid thanks Messi for the 80,000 euro donation to help with the mountain range fires

Madrid (EFE).- The President of the Community of Madrid (regional government), Isabel Díaz Ayuso, thanked Argentine footballer Leo Messi this Tuesday for his 80,000 euro (about 92,000 dollar) donation intended for the reconstruction of the western mountain range following the forest fire that affected the area last week.

In a message posted on the social network X, Ayuso thanked the player and noted: “We Madrilenians look forward to welcoming you soon to give you the applause you deserve.”

As indicated by the Madrid president, the contribution from the Inter Miami and Argentina national team footballer will be allocated to reconstruction efforts in the municipalities affected by the fire.

The wildfire in the western mountain range has affected 17 municipalities in Madrid and forced the evacuation and confinement of more than 55,000 residents.

The initial estimate from the Community of Madrid places the affected area at more than 27,000 hectares, following a week of fire extinction and control efforts, the largest recorded in the region in recent decades.
