New York, NY.– The New York Mets organization announced that on November 15th, Citi Field, in Queens, will host a historic matchup between the professional baseball teams of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, bringing one of the most emblematic rivalries of the Caribbean to a Major League stadium. It will be the first time this Caribbean classic is played on a Major League stage.
The announcement was made by Erick Almonte and Yamil Benítez, presidents of the professional baseball players’ unions of both countries, during a meeting with journalists in the stadium press room, headed by Alexandra Cohen, owner of the Mets, and which was attended by numerous communicators from the city.
“Beyond a ball game, it will be a great cultural celebration in which passion, music, and Caribbean rivalry will be experienced throughout the weekend. This new edition will allow Dominicans and Puerto Ricans residing in the area to see their professional baseball idols in action,” said Yamil Benítez, president of the Professional Baseball Players Association of Puerto Rico.
From his side, Erick Almonte, president of the Dominican Republic’s National Federation of Professional Baseball Players (FENAPEPRO), highlighted the Mets’ support and the enthusiasm generated among the players. “I am convinced that we will fill the stadium. Both our players and those from Puerto Rico will offer a first-class spectacle,” he affirmed.

In this clash of great stars, former All-Star Robinson Canó will participate in his last professional game on American soil, and he will be honored by all the players of the Dominican team who will wear his iconic number 24 jersey.
In addition, Puerto Rican legend and former MLB All-Star Carlos Delgado will be the manager of the team whose jerseys will have the #21, used by him while playing with the Mets.
