Regional powers

The largest representation corresponds to countries with a long tradition in the history of the Games, such as Mexico, Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. These delegations have historically occupied the top spots in the medal table and arrive once again as candidates to contend for the overall title.

In addition to independent countries, the event brings together several Caribbean territories that compete autonomously within Centro Caribe Sports, which makes the participating countries a showcase of the region’s sporting and cultural diversity.

Third location

Santo Domingo hosts the Central American and Caribbean Games for the third time, having previously been the venue in 1974 and 1986. The 2026 edition coincides with the centenary of this regional competition, considered the oldest in the world after the Olympic Games.

Heading to Los Angeles

For 16 days, the participating countries will seek to win medals in 40 sports and 56 disciplines, in an event that is also part of the athletes’ preparation for the Olympic cycle with an eye toward Los Angeles 2028.
