Hurricane Marie, located more than 1,100 kilometers off the California coast, caused flooding and several rescues in Southern California over the Labor Day weekend. The National Weather Service (NWS) described the conditions as potentially life-threatening, placing the coastal stretch between Malibu and Long Beach under close watch.
Seal Beach was among the hardest-hit areas, with ocean water flooding parking lots and approaching residential properties. Authorities remain on alert for the possibility of additional rainfall and further impacts on coastal communities.
In response to the emergency, crews built sand berms and operated pumps to remove water from affected areas and send it back into the ocean. Authorities continue to monitor conditions and are urging residents to stay informed about potential changes in the weather.
