Santiago. – President Luis Abinader led this Wednesday the delivery of the total renovation of the Casa de Arte INC., a work that rescues an emblematic cultural space with more than 40 years of deterioration and integrates it into the urban revitalization process promoted by the Government in the historic center of Santiago.
The intervention was executed by the Presidential Commission for Provincial Development, led by Ángel de la Cruz, and included structural reconstruction and reinforcement, electrical and telecommunications modernization with underground cabling, facade restoration, roof and floor adaptation, as well as the functional reorganization of each area of the property.
During the event, De la Cruz affirmed that the recovery of the House of Art is part of a strategic vision of the president to transform not only the infrastructure, but also the cultural heritage of the cities. He maintained that the historic center of Santiago is experiencing a “luminous” stage thanks to an investment policy that combines large mobility projects with the rescue of cultural spaces.
Renovated spaces and new cultural scenarios
The official explained that the building was found in critical condition, with leaks, obsolete electrical installations, and areas practically collapsed, despite having been the stage for great figures of Dominican and international art such as Víctor Víctor, Maridalia Hernández, Juan Luis Guerra, Sonia Silvestre, Fausto Rey, and Compay Segundo.
Among the newly enabled areas are:
• “Danilo de los Santos” exhibition hall.
• “Marcelo Bermúdez” auditorium.
• Hall for plastic arts and academic training.
• Commercial area for handicrafts, literary and musical works.
• Bohemian space for artists.
• “Zaguán Cibaeño” open-air amphitheater.
The work is integrated into the recovery process of the historic center, which includes the intervention of Duarte Park, emblematic streets, and the creation of a small square dedicated to the Santiago carnival, consolidating the Benito Monción boulevard as a cultural and tourist axis.
City Hall Highlights Urban and Cultural Impact
For his part, Mayor Ulises Rodríguez valued the work as a decisive step to restore dynamism to the urban center, increase property values, and reactivate the cultural and family flow in the area. He announced that a cultural week and permanent artistic festivals are planned to be developed in the renovated space.

The president was accompanied by the Minister of Public Works, Eduardo Estrella; the provincial governor Rosa Santos; the president of the Casa de Arte, Rosa Idalia García; the president of the Council for the Strategic Development of Santiago (CDES), Ricardo Fondeur Victoria; the president of the Association of Merchants and Industrialists of Santiago (ACIS), Marcos Santana; and Brenda Sánchez, representing the Santiago Tourist Cluster.
With this delivery, the Government consolidates the rescue of one of the main cultural symbols of the Cibao, within the framework of an urban transformation that redefines the historical heart of Santiago and projects it as a cultural and tourist reference at the national level.
