Case of young man dead in Los Alcarrizos raises doubts: family asks to clarify version of stolen motorcycle

Santo Domingo.- Janery Rojas Ramírez reported that her brother, John Misael Ramírez, 24 years old, died due to blows received on the night of last Friday in Los Alcarrizos, and demanded that the authorities open a thorough investigation into the case, alleging that it was not the community who assaulted him, as initially reported. Rojas explained that her brother, known as Kelvin or Arañita, was a motorcyclist and had left his home four days before the event to stay at the house of two passengers. According to her testimony, around 9:00 to 10:00 on Friday night, the young man was beaten and later taken to the hospital, where he died on Saturday at 5:00 in the afternoon while intubated. The complainant asserts that there are multiple versions of what happened and that none of them match what was observed in cameras taken by the DICRIM.

“In the video, it is seen that my brother arrives at a tire repair shop with a flat tire and accompanied by another boy. I want to know where that boy is,” he stated.

He also questioned the version that the community had attacked the young man under the allegation that he stole an engine.

“If he had been a thief, where is the complainant? Where is the engine? My brother had been there for four days and everyone saw him,” he expressed. Rojas directly pointed to a group of young people from the neighborhood, whom residents of the area had identified as responsible for the beating. “Several people told me that it wasn’t the community, that it was a gang of thugs. They even mentioned names,” he assured, adding that even a minor who was working at the tire repair shop gave several different versions of what happened. The woman also questioned the attitude of one of the passengers with whom her brother was before the incident, stating that she did not face her at the time and that she had to ask the Police to detain her for investigation. She said that this person claimed that the motorcycle her brother was driving had been lent by a family member, but it was never proven to be stolen. The family insists that John Misael had no criminal record and left three children orphaned.

“It wasn’t a dog they killed. What I want is for it to be investigated. For those responsible to appear and for the truth to be known,” Rojas demanded.

So far, the authorities have not offered an official report on the matter nor have they arrested the alleged individuals pointed out by the family members.
